MEXICO

Before you go...

Contrary to popular impressions about south of the border travel, Mexico does not experience true "reverse" weather seasons from the US and Canada. Summers at Mexico's beach resorts are generally quite hot and humid, while winter travelers to inland cities experience cool and even cold weather.
Recommendation: Head to beach resorts from November - April and inland cities from May - October

Visitors need these items to enter Mexico:

  1. Passport is required
  2. Visa might be required for some countries
After you arrive ...

Your first stop is at Mexican Immigration (migration) where your proof of citizenship is inspected, and tourist cards are validated.

Next stop is at customs (Aduana), You are allowed to bring in any of the following items: personal items (clothing, footwear, toiletries), books and magazines, medicine for personal use, with medical prescription in case of psychotropic substances, hand sport equipment, fishing equipment, 400 cigarettes or 50 cigars, if carrier is over 18 years old.

Mexico Reinstates Visitor Entry Fee: aproxx $20 US and $31 CAD.

Money Matters ...

It is possible for visitors to access ATMs. ATMs are now in Cirrus and Plus Systems, and even offer Spanish/ English language menus. Machines will dispense pesos. U.S banks generally charge about $5.00US for every ATM transaction.

Money is often exchanged at "Casas de cambio" (exchange houses) that are open longer hours and offer quicker service. Although dollars are widely accepted, we recommend using pesos during your stay. Note that the worst exchange rates are often at hotels, the best at exchange houses. Expect a slightly lower rate for traveler's checks. Exchange fees are not charged.

Credit cards are widely accepted, with Visa and MasterCard being the cards of choice. Amex is also widely accepted.

HEDONISM II

Best time to go...

Fall, winter and early spring can be less humid than late spring and summer. Late spring through the summer can be more humid, with daily rain showers the norm. Of course, late August through early October can bring unstable weather to the Caribbean as well. Prices are generally higher from December to April 15, with Christmas holidays rates higher than any time during the year.
Theme nights...
  • Sunday: International Night--anything goes for wardrobe
  • Monday: 70's Disco Fever Night
  • Tuesday: Las Vegas Night/Pajama Party Night
  • Wednesday: Masquerade Night
  • Thursday: Toga Dance and Talent Show
  • Friday: Reggae Night
  • Saturday: Battle of the Sexes
More Info ...

Hedonism II has an overrated reputation for indiscriminate sex, in our opinion. While we can't say it never happens, we find that probably about 10% of the guests are responsible for 90% of the reputation. To lay the question to rest, management policy from Hedonism says: public sex is not permitted. If caught breaking the rules, with flagrant, chronic violations, you may be escorted off the property.

All rooms have updated plumbing, water supply and air conditioning improvements. For a cool night we crank the A/C unit down all the way.

If you stay at the resort for 14 calendar nights during any one calendar year, you can stay an additional three (3) free nights during the same calendar year. Your 14 nights can be over any number of visits. You DO NOT have to stay all 14 nights at any one time. The three free nights MUST be taken in the same calendar year.

The single-share program at Hedonism # 2 is a good deal for single guests, who normally get penalized at most resorts with a supplemental charge. The single-share program permits you to pay for your room based on double-occupancy, where the resort assigns you a room mate of the same gender.

HEDONISM III

Best time to go...

Fall, winter and early spring can be less humid than late spring and summer. Late spring through the summer can be more humid, with daily rain showers the norm. Prices are generally higher from December to April 15, with Christmas holidays rates higher than any time during the year.
Theme nights...
  • Sunday: International Night--anything goes for wardrobe
  • Monday: 70's Disco Fever Night
  • Tuesday: Las Vegas Night/Pajama Party Night
  • Wednesday: Murder Mystery Night/Circus and Masquerade Night
  • Thursday: Toga Dance and Talent Show
  • Friday: Reggae Night
  • Saturday: Battle of the Sexes
Policy ...

Management policy from Hedonism says "public sex is NOT permitted." If caught breaking the rules, you can be escorted off the property without a refund. (However, if you visit the clothing-optional pool and bar until 5 AM, you may see some of the rules broken)!

Differences ...

Hedonism III has a feel of a more intimate resort than Hedo II with lots more places on the property for mixing and meeting new friends. Even with a full resort, we believe the guests will be better dispersed throughout the property, with crowding of facilities a thing of the past (with one exception--the nude pool).

The activities and entertainment staff really go out of their way to keep things going so, even if you travel alone, new friends won't be far or hard to meet. Make sure you say hello to the staff, bar tenders and waiters, get to know them, introduce your self and call THEM by name....a little hospitality goes a long way with those that serve.
Marriage ceremonies are free to guests with a 1-3 day residency requirement. TIP: Send your documents to the resort early before you arrive so the paperwork can be done beforehand. You can get married legally after only 24 hours on the island if all the paperwork is filed before you arrive.

You'll see anyone from 21 to 81 there. We think Hedonism III will attract a few prior clients from Hedonism II who are looking for a more upscale environment with more restaurant selections, more variety in their activities. Plus, with so many new "toys" to play with, we believe a slightly younger crowd will be attracted to those diversions, such as the water slide, which is a hoot to ride at any age, or the "see through" hot tub outside the disco with a glass floor, perfect for "bottom" viewing.
